Requirements: Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Business/Secretarial course work preferred. Licenses/Certifications: None required. Experience: 3 years experience in a physician office performing accounts receivable duties. Responsibilities: Performs all front office functions for the practice. Greets patients professionally, answers incoming telephone calls and schedules patient appointments as appropriate. Proficiently utilizes Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Misys practice management system for patient look up, patient check in / out functions, co-pay collections, phone message taking, scanning and proper maintenance of patient medical record. Works as a medical assistant as needed in MJMG practices and private practices, and prepares patients for examination and treatment. Assists physicians and nurses in examination and treatment of patients as needed. Performs selected nursing duties as needed. Trains practice staff in all aspects of the practice-specific work flow and in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for that office. Acts as a liaison between practices and MJME. When providing temporary office coverage: - Checks patients in according to office and MJME policies. Collects co-payments and any past due amounts. Enters demographic and insurance information accurately for each new patient. Monitors accuracy of existing patient information in system.
- Checks patients out according to office and MJME policies. Make follow-up appointment.
- Enter charges for patient visit and diagnosis code, meeting performance standards as set by the practice and MJME.
- Resolves or refers patient billing questions to Supervisor or Central Business Office.Pulls charts/files for scheduled appointments and completes necessary computer data entry for visit. Receives messages for the physicians and pulls appropriate charts to accompany message as needed.
- Greets patients promptly and courteously face to face and over the phone.
- Competent in scheduling appointments according to office policy.
- Schedules patient referrals, insurance pre-certifications and authorizations as required. Schedule surgeries or other procedures.
- May order office/medical supplies as necessary. Does cost comparisons and works with vendors to get best price of products.
- Files medical records in charts after physician's review and refiles completed chart in designated area. Dictation filed in patient chart within 48 hours of patient's visit. May also transcribe dictation of office notes.
- Enforces policies on patient rights and responsibilities.
When trainer/liaison with MJME: - Trains practice staff in all aspects of the practice-specific work flow and in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for that office.
- Completes assignments upon request for MJME management team.
- When not at a practice site, provides temporary coverage for CBO and other MJME teams.
- Acts as a liaison between practices and MJME, assisting with process and customer service improvement projects.
When acting as a medical assistant: - Prepares patients for examinations and treatment; checks vital signs (when cross-trained as medical assistant).
- Calls pharmacies with prescriptions requested by the physician and maintains records of the same as needed.
- Reviews patient's medical record prior to appointment and obtains any missing forms, reports or lab results. Prior to physician visit.
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment; takes patient histories and vital signs as needed.
- Prepares exams and treatment rooms with necessary instruments as needed.
- Demonstrates competency in performing and reporting results of requested laboratory tests in an accurate manner to physician and patient.
- Demonstrates competency in performing phlebotomy as requested by physician and prepares specimens for dispatch to reference laboratories as needed.
- Keep work areas and exam room orderly, clean and well stocked.
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment, including sterilization as needed.
- Assists physicians in preparing for minor surgeries, physicals as needed.
